Who is behind unTRAPPED?
A grassroots disability-access advocacy initiative led by Michael Page, working constructively with local councils, residents, and carers to improve public safety and mobility access on the Capricorn Coast.
Michael's Advocacy & Credibility
Michael Page is a long-time advocate with the Capricorn Access & Equity Group (CAEG), Central Queensland's longest-running accessibility community group. He served a term as Chair of the Accessibility Capricornia Group, which meets bi-monthly with the Livingstone Mayor, Councillors, and council engineers to negotiate practical infrastructure repairs and safety fixes.
Professionally, Michael works in community engagement at Capricorn Citizen Advocacy, a disability advocacy charity in Rockhampton. He also has deep daily personal experience of disability care advocacy from 2017 to 2023.
Leadership Group Member of the Capricornia Stronger Places, Stronger People initiative, auspiced by Central Queensland University (CQU) and funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services and the Queensland Government Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety.
Campaign Purpose
unTRAPPED maps real accessibility conditions for wheelchair and mobility-device users in Central Queensland. We provide evidence to help locals move safely and pressure councils to fix hazards. By mapping specific access issues, the campaign aims to prevent painful detours and injuries, ensuring that getting around town doesn’t put anyone in hospital.
